Walter CLARK

From Commonwealth War Graves Commission website:

Private W Clark { 10796 } Essex Regiment who died on 22 February 1919.  Age 22.

Son of Charles Clark, of Duton Hill, Tilty.

Remembered in Canterbury Cemetery, Kent

From Census Returns 1901 and 1911:

Walter was 14 years old in 1911, and employed as an errand boy.  His father, Charles, (a carpenter) is listed as a widower in the 1901 census; Walter was the youngest of six children.  From the 1911 census it can be seen that Charles married for a second time; his wife, Sarah, is thirteen years older than Charles, and they had been married for 9 years.

The address given is Duton Hill, Tilty; from the 1901 census, it appears that the house was one of four in a row between the Horseshoes Inn and the Farm.

Other:

Private W Clark entered France on 25th October 1915, and was entitled to the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

He was transferred from the Essex Regiment to the Labour Corps (No. 255535), almost certainly downgraded due to ill health/wounds and subsequently died in the UK (possibly from influenza or pneumonia in his weakened state) after the end of the war.
